Copicut Reservoir Description

The Copicut Reservoir, which is part of the 13,600-acre Southeastern Mass. Bioreserve located in Fall River and Dartmouth, is now open to shore fishing only. Boats are not allowed. This is permitted under the new conservation restrictions recently enacted and held by the Mass. Dept. of Fish and Game and the Dept. of Conservation and Recreation. Here are some answers to reader questions.
Anglers now are permitted to fish the shoreline only, with no access to the dam area, which is off limits. Anglers also must remain on the reservoir property and not trespass on privately-owned, posted property. The old "water supply/no trespassing" signs have not yet been removed, so anglers may disregard them as the new regulations supercede the old signage. They will be removed soon and parking areas are being developed.
Wading into the reservoir is not permitted "'— you must stay on the shore. There are no special restrictions on the use of live bait, except for the statewide regulations on species that may be used. A map of the area can be found at MassWildlife.org in the Wildlife Management Area section. Fishing remains closed on the nearby North Watuppa Pond, which is Fall River's primary water supply.

Be warned..... Nobody should consume any fish from this waterbody. It contains deadly levels of the contaminant Mercury! http://www.mass.gov/Eeohhs2/docs/dph/environmental/exposure/fish_consumption_advisory_list.pdf
